Studio Calico: More Penny Arcade + Pinball

I have a couple more cards to share using the July Studio Calico card kit Penny Arcade and the Add-on Kit Pinball.

I really love the sentiments in the Pinball stamp set, they are nice and big and bold.  I paired the get well soon sentiment with the solid flower stamp and used the pattern paper from the add-on kit as well.  I think this paper looks like a quilt so it's perfect to pair with a Get Well sentiment.  I used Color Theory inks in Sunny Day, Orange County and Doc Brown for my stamping.

For the second card I used the outline stamps in the Pinball stamp set to do a little paper piecing.  I like how the stamps in this set allow you to build your own flowers how you want, so I could stamp them to frame my sentiment nicely.

I had a little stamping "oops" with the pink flower so I used a button to cover it up and salvage my card…mistakes are just opportunities for embellishment right?

Pattern Paper Basket Weave Card

Today I have a little picture tutorial showing how to make a fun basket weave card using pattern papers.

First step is to pick out the pattern paper you would like to use, I decided to pick papers from the Wanderlust collection from Studio Calico.  I chose 4 papers that were very colorful with smaller or simpler patterns so that they were not too busy when put together. I picked 4 papers to alternate but you could try this technique with more if you wanted.

I cut each of my papers down into 1/2" strips, wider or thinner strips will give you different looks too depending on the look you are going for or the size card you are wanting to make.

Using some post-it note tape I secured the vertical strips to my work surface.  I also used the grid on my cutting mat as a guide to get them nice and straight. You could also use any other low tack tape for this.

Once secured down it is easy to weave the horizontal strips through the vertical ones, once again using the grid on the mat as a guide to keep them straight.  After getting all my pieces where I wanted them I could pull off the post-it note tape from the top and use it across all the pieces in the middle to temporarily hold them together.

I added lots of adhesive to the back of my strips so that all of them would be held down nice and secure to my card base.

I made a standard size A2 card base from matching grey card stock then placed my woven panel on the front a little off center.  Once the strips are secured remove the post-it note tape.

After adhering the panel down trim the ends of the strips off using the edge of the card as a guide.

Using the stitched circle die included in the Stitched Party Banner set from Lawn Fawn I cut a white piece of card stock for my sentiment.  I stamped the Get Well Soon sentiment from the Studio Calico Pinball Add-on kit in Charcoal colored ink so it would match the grey colors in my card.

Using some foam adhesive squares I secured the sentiment to the bottom right corner. I used the foam to give some dimension and pop it up away from the basket weave.  Also positioning it toward the opposite corner balances out the design and doesn't cover up the nice woven paper design.

Finally I embellished with a few buttons in matching colors. I used buttons from the Studio Calico Color Theory Aqua Button Pack along with some May Arts natural burlap twine.  I used glue dots to hold the twine on the back of the button and to adhere the button to the card front.

This idea is a great way to use up some pattern paper scraps you may be holding on to create a nice design.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Studio Calico: Penny Arcade + Pinball

Hello! I'm back with a couple more projects using the July Studio Calico kits Penny Arcade and Pinball Add-on kit.  For this first card I cut the feather paper on a diagonal to create a panel with the feathers turned.

I pierced the paper using the feather design as a guide and then stitched with a variegated embroidery floss.

For my second card I folded the wide ribbon and adhered it on top of the silver doily to create a background for my sentiment.

Be sure to pick up the Penny Arcade card kit and Pinball Add-on kit.

Lawn Fawn June Inspiration Week: Critters On The Farm Lawn Cuts

It's the last day of Lawn Fawn June Inspiration week.  There are some new Lawn Cuts dies that match older sets and today I'm using the new Critters On The Farm Lawn Cuts.  I decided to make a small pocket scrapbooking layout using the new dies to document our recent weekend trip.  We visited our friends that own The Naked Pig Meat Co and got the tour of their farm so using this set was very appropriate.

I used both the 3x4 stitched journaling card and 4x6 stitched journaling card dies to cut out my photographs and I also used the grassy border die and stitched scalloped border die to embellish over top of my pictures.

Check out the Lawn Fawn Blog to see more projects with the rest of these new dies!  Thanks for stopping by today.
