Summer Card Camp - Week 1 {continued}

Hi everyone, I'm back again with a couple more cards from Summer Card Camp.  On Wednesday we saw some examples from other designers so I picked a few and used them as inspiration to continue working with this week's color combo.

My first card was inspired by Kelly Marie Alvarez's card.  I think she and I both share a love for this long vine stamp in the Lawn Fawn Blissful Botanicals set.  I decided to use it differently than I have before and emboss the image on colored paper rather than stamping and coloring the leaves in with markers.

The second card I made yesterday was inspired by Vicky Papaioannou's card.  She shared a technique using Distress Ink and then water on a background stamp to create a subtle pattern.  So I tried it with Distress Stain instead of Distress Ink.  I covered my cardstock piece with broken china Distress Stain then misted my Hero Arts Sweet Threads Spirals background and placed on the stained paper.  It worked!

Thanks for checking out my blog today! Come back tomorrow for the Young Crafter's Unite Blog Hop! It's my first ever blog hop participation and I'm so excited.  There are prizes for hoppers involved so be sure to check it out.

CAS's New Shiny Red Bike

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a great weekend.  Today was a busy one for me.  We worked on cleaning out my condo more so we can put it on the market, not completely done yet but we did make some progress.  Then we went to the Tourists game tonight.  For those that don't know (which I'm sure is most all of you) the Asheville Tourists are the local minor league baseball team.  Great name right?  Well we like it, we are a tourist town after all.  :)  Then again, maybe some of you did know that... if you have ever seen the move Bull Durham.  Anyway, onto my card.  Today's card plays along with this weeks CAS-ual Fridays Challenge #8 Getting Edgy.

Okay talk about some serious fussy cutting, which I didn't think about before I started, but I did it anyway and it turned out well.  I think I'm actually better at cutting with an xacto knife than I am with scissors sometimes.  Probably all those years of architecture school and making models.  I just had to make the bike shiny too.  Who doesn't love a shiny red bike!  I loved this challenge because I finally got to use my notebook paper edger! I got it awhile back but had yet to make a card that used it, until now.

Hope you all have a great rest of the weekend.  I have to work tomorrow {boo} but that just means I can take another day off next week instead {yay}.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Some Encouragement

Hi my beautiful friends, today I want to share two cards with you.  The first one I made last night when I wasn't feeling very crafty, but I sat at my desk and searched for inspiration anyway.  I kept thinking of my crafty friends who have been down lately, for various reasons.  Emotional or physical, whatever the reason we all have our down days (or weeks, or months, or even years).  So I thought I would make a simple card of encouragement.  I just got the Partly Cloudy set from Lawn Fawn the other day and thought I would break it in.  I know it's an old set, but still a good one!  So you girls who are dealing with the blues (you know who you are) this card is for you.

This second card plays along with this weeks Lawnscaping Challenge #12 which is a sketch challenge. I like sketch challenges.  I used the new Cruising Through Life set from Lawn Fawn and some beautiful papers from My Mind's Eye.

Supplies:
Gray Skies
Stamps:  Lawn Fawn {partly cloudy & smitty's abc's}
Ink: Jenni Bowlin {spice tin & soap powder} Distress Ink {faded jeans}
Paper: Papertrey Ink {kraft}

Pinwheel Dreams
Stamps: Lawn Fawn {cruising through life & blissful botanicals}
Ink: Jenni Bowlin {brown sugar} Distress Ink {tea dye} Versamark
Paper:  Papertrey Ink {terracotta tile & summer sunrise} My Mind's Eye {stella & rose mabel paper pad}
Other:  My Mind's Eye {stella & rose mabel brad} Papertrey Ink {rustic cream button twine} Copic {E11} EK tools {scalloped scallop edge punch} Liquid Pearls {buttercup}

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope maybe these bits of encouragement have made your day a little brighter.  Creating them always makes my day happier.  Have an wonderful day!

Father's Day + Colorful Thanks

Hi all my beautiful blog friends.  I hope you all have a great day celebrating our dad's and all they do for us.  I am truly blessed with a loving wonderful father so I had to make him a hand made card for Father's Day of course.

The sentiment inside reads "from the happy CAMPERS!" Because there are campers on the front... get it?  Yeah I know, it's really cheesy but it sounds just like something my Dad would say.  He can be pretty corny, but we love him! I masked off the one row of cars & campers and used tea dye distress ink all over the rest of it.  Then I cut out a car & camper from scraps and popped them up with foam dots.

I also quickly made a card for this weeks Trigger Tuesday at Moxie Fab World.  I really loved the bright colors of this photo and the different sizes of the spools. So that is what my design is based on.

Thanks for popping in.  For those of you dreading Monday (like me) I hope it isn't too bad, and you all have a good week.

Kissy Fishes

Hi All, I have yet another post this weekend... yeah it has been a crafty weekend indeed!  But my weeknights ahead are pretty full so I'm glad I got some time to play this weekend.

So have you checked out Britta's new video series "All About Stamping"?  In the last few installments she has been featuring different stamp companies stamps.  In the latest one she featured My Cute Stamps (you can check it out HERE), and I realized I had a few sets from My Cute Stamps but had not really put them to use yet.  So today I remedied that! :)

I used the mini Gumballs set and some gems (which is a first for me) that fit perfectly into the gumballs.  I picked up the sentiment stamp in the dollar bin at Michael's.  I just thought it was a sweet sentiment and would make a good card to cheer someone up.

My second card is another "think out of the box" congrats card.  Typically wedding cards are soft and beautiful and elegant.  But I have to say the cards I remember the most out of the big stack of wedding cards we got a couple months ago where the more fun cards.  So I inked up the my new Fishy Fun set from My Cute Stamps and got creative.  Fish need love too. :)

I think I will enter this one in the Gallery Idol challenge as well.

Supplies:
Sparkle & Shine
Stamps: My Cute Stamps Gumballs, Studio G Sparkle & Shine sentiment
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Jenni Bowlin Chicken Feed
Paper: Bazzill Basics
Other: Twine, Gems, Glossy Accents, Copics, Copic Spica, Papertrey Ink Tiny Tags Die

Kissy Fishy Wedding
Stamps: My Cute Stamps Fishy Fun, Lawn Fawn Hats off to you & My Silly Valentine, Hero Arts Magical Background
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Jenni Bowlin Soap Powder, Brown Sugar, Stick Candy & Seed Packet
Paper: Papertrey Ink Spring Rain
Other: Copics, Glossy Accents, Glitter Gel Pens, Gems & White Tissue Paper

Okay that's all for me, back to work tomorrow.  Oh Monday you come too soon.  Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Yay! It's Friday!

Happy Friday everyone!  I finally have some time to post a couple cards that I made during the week.  But first I would like to share why I have had a busy week.  In addition to my normal job,  I spent two nights this week preparing for an art show on Saturday.  I don't think I have shared this before, my church has a art gallery in our lobby and I am part of the gallery team.  We reach out to artists in the community and have a different show about once a month, including two juried shows a year.  Asheville is a big time art community, we have a entire arts district downtown.  It's pretty awesome to live in a city that is just oozes creativity.  This month our show features pieces done by kids at an inter city school.  The arts team went out on our church wide community service day a few weeks back and did art projects with these kids.  They are a small charter school and don't have an art teacher or regular art lessons.  I will share some pictures of the show later because there is one super awesome piece that I think turned out fabulous! :) I also went out last night to hear my Dad's band play at a local venue.  It was lots of fun, with lots of dancing and a good time all around.  Okay so enough about my week... on to the cards!

This first card I made for this weeks Lawnscaping Challenge #11 Clean & Simple

Supplies:
Stamps: Lawn Fawn Critters on the Farm & Critters in the Burbs (grass)
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Jenni Bowlin Stick Candy & Seed Packet, Distress Ink Scattered Straw & Shabby Shutters
Paper: Papertry Ink Kraft
Other: DeNami Design Boutique Buttons Tangerine, Copics

The second card I have to share today is one of my favorites I have come up with.  I was trying to think of a creative congrats card to submit to Paper Crafts Gallery Idol 2011.  There are so many submissions so far I wanted to create a card that was a bit different.  So I created a baby congrats card that is outside the typical baby card box. :)

I had to do some creative stamping to make the word "new" because that word is not in any Lawn Fawn sentiments (at least not any I own).  This card also fits with this week's Wee Memories challenge because I definitely tried to "free my creativity" on this one! :)

Supplies:
Stamps: Lawn Fawn Critters on the Farm, Plus One & Critters in the Burbs (grass)
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Jenni Bowlin Stick Candy & Seed Packet, Distress Ink Shabby Shutters & Tea Dye
Paper: Papertrey Ink Pure Poppy & Vintage Cream, October Afternoon Modern Homemaker paper pad
Other: Papertrey Ink Rustic Cream Button Twine, Copics, Corner Chomper, Martha Stewart Ebony Writing Pen

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you all have a Fabulous Friday and a great weekend.  Who knows maybe I will get to post some more yummy stampy-ness over the weekend!

Love, Chari

CAS sketch + Sew lovely birthday

Wow it's been a busy week around here, and super hot too!  I think we skipped spring and went straight to summer here in NC, which by the way I am not a big fan of.  Good thing crafting is not an outdoor hobby right?  Today I have two cards to share.  For this first card I tried playing along with this weeks CASual Friday Challenge #5.

I started out with an idea I really liked but I'll be honest, it took me awhile to get this one together, and I'm still not super thrilled with it.  But I will confess I am a bit of perfectionist, so I am pretty critical of my own work.  So in an effort to grow, I'm sharing anyway.  I really love the Admit One set from Lawn Fawn, especially the ticket stamp.  I see endless possibilities.

Supplies:
Stamps: Lawn Fawn Admit One
Paper: Bazzill Basics Snapdragon, Echo Park Summer Days Paper Pad
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, VersaMark
Other: Copics, Sheer Ribbon

My second card for today is a birthday card for my Mom.  My mom is awesome, and deserves an awesome card for her birthday.  She is the family seamstress for sure, so I used Lawn Fawn's Sew Lovely set to make a sewing themed card for her.

I also created this card for the I'm Sew Excited! Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.

Supplies:
Stamps: Lawn Fawn Sew Lovely, Sophie's Sentiments, Smitty's ABCs, Bon Voyage
Paper: Cosmo Cricket Material Girl paper pad
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black & Rose Bud (envelope), Jenni Bowlin Spice Tin, Chicken Feed & Stick Candy (envelope), Distress Ink Wild Honey & Peeled Paint
Other: Copics Spica, Ribbon, Buttons, Spellbinders Nestabilities Lacey Circles, foam adhesive

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to stop by.  I hope you all have an amazing rest of the weekend.  Bye!
